Cantate Domino (1999)
Recorded in the Basilica in 1999, this recording features three of Sacred Heart's Choirs: The Basilica Schola, the Women's Liturgical Choir (now known as the Magnificat Choir) and the Liturgical Choir.
The Basilica Schola, under the direction of Dr. Gail Walton, is heard singing seven motets from the Renaissance period including three motets written by William Byrd. "If Ye Love Me", by Thomas Tallis, a wonderful motet and a favorite of the Schola and the Liturgical Choir, is also included.
The Women's Liturgical Choir (now known as the Magnificat Choir), directed by Mr. Andrew McShane and accompanied by Mr. Paul Thornock, sings eight selections including a set of three motets by French composer Gabriel Fauré.
Concluding the recording is music sung by the Liturgical Choir under the direction of Dr. Gail Walton and accompanied by Mr. Andrew McShane. The Liturgical Choir offers music composed in the 20th Century including two motets by French composer Pierre Villette.
This recording is dedicated to the Most. Rev. Daniel R. Jenky, CSC, the auxiliary bishop of the Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend. Bishop Jenky is the former rector of the Basilica of the Sacred Heart. His strong support of great music through the years has made the diverse choral program at the Basilica a reality.
