In order to better reflect the choir's mission, the ensemble formerly known as the Women’s Liturgical Choir is pleased to announce that they will now be known as the Notre Dame Magnificat Choir. The choir, which was founded in 1987, serves as music ministers for the 5pm vigil Mass in the Basilica of the Sacred Heart on the campus of the University of Notre Dame.

The Magnificat Choir derives its name from the song the Blessed Virgin Mary proclaimed at the Visitation: “Magnificat anima mea Dominum” (“My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord.”)  With Our Lady, through song, the choir proclaims the Lord’s greatness and rejoices in Our Saving God. Mary’s words and her perfect example of a life of praise inspire the group’s mission to serve, worship, and uplift women's voices.
